I posted last week with a similar problem: OrangeLink+ PCI combo card (USB + Firewire) not working in OS9.2.2 but working fine in 10.2. The thing is, I know the card worked in 9.2.2 when I was still running 10.1.2 (or 10.1.3?). The thing that changed was after I installed 10.2 and then first started up a classic app, the 10.2 Finder popped up a window informing me it needed to "update" the classic environment. I clicked OK, it updated something, and the card no longer worked when I booted up from OS9.2.2. I have since reloaded OS9, then updated to 9.1, and the card again works fine. My work around is not to boot a classic application except when booted from OS9.1.
I also had my Kensington USB mouse always light up just before it stopped working. I think it was a not-enough-power thing, because I now have it plugged into a powered hub and it no longer has the problem.
