bill gates is probably so worried about software piracy because he is the ultimate software pirate, dos was a rip-off of someone else's work with very little tweaking, and even contained the authors copyright statement in the code but the developer was smart enough not to take on the ibm legal team who would have been codefendants. gates was thrown out of college, reportedly because he stole computing time on the university system for his private project, i.e. the dos ripoff's trivial code changes!
