What I'm concerned with is will we be able to run popular applications in it. That's more a matter of how the OS is designed rather than the hardware contour. We won't be using exotic, special purpose programs. If that iMac will hold its own for 5-10 years nobody will complain. If Apple plays games to kill our investment, we'll go elsewhere, and Apple will lose its market. Even on the PC side, we've reached a technological plateau. My Pentium II Dell is performing with brand new applications as well as any current model fitted out with XP. Software outfits aren't going to lose those of us who run Windows95 or 98, 2000, etc. I think we've reached a similar plateau on the Mac side -- with this difference: Jobs must decide whether he wants to maintain continuity or throw it to the winds. Gates made the decision to maintain continuity and call it progress. Which is why we have constructive conservatism in life. That's why JS Bach could compose the greatest music of the Baroque period. He was a creative conservative. And it doesn't get much better than that. Dinosaurs indeed! BR -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
