You mean trace cutting, & using wire-wrap wire jumpers? Is there a website which
describes the procedure? My origins are hardware, so I can do it without a lot of
pain. But, if it gets a bit involved, I think I would have to agree with you..just
spend the extra $$ to get something ready to go.

I think Mac users are getting gouged once again. Why is a PC ATA/133 card only
$49, & the Mac version $99? (Sonnet, SIIG, Acard, et al). I just did some serious
comparisons of optical-mouse & ergo keyboards, & the Apple mfg stuff is inferior to
the PC stuff in *both* value & price-point. I'm using a Logitech optical
wheel-mouse ($19) which is a dramatic improvement over the Apple pro mouse ($59?).
At that price, I can get a cordless top-of-line optical mouse with 6 additional
switches (Logitech MX700). An Apple pro keyboard is $59 (plasticky feel, gets beat
out by a lowly Compaq kbd demo'd @Radio Shack). DataDesk has a USB ergo keyboard
(with power switch) for $69, mechanical key switches. I could actually tolerate
paying more for quality, but the Apple input-devices just isn't there..they look
cool, but functionally they suck. This was a real shock to me.

Let's face it, price is a big issue for buyers. They want cheap..& they'll
tolerate junk. I will say, that the PC solution is still a "mess". I've read some
1sthand reports on Microsoft OS nightmares, I wouldn't go near that stuff..it's
like a time-bomb. It's pathetic & exasperating. I think a networking guy at a
major university said it best: he has a PC to play games (he runs Linux on his PC,
which he calls a "sun-killer")
