Encouraged by David's response, I booted into OS X (Jaguar) with my monitor connected to my ixMicro UltimateRez video card. I got a dark screen for the first five minutes or so. But I could hear my HD still working, and the screen suddenly went white, then solid blue, then blue with swirls (the default desktop pattern in Jaguar). But no menu, dock, or finder. I then connected a second monitor to the built-in video. It displayed a normal OS X desktop, so I went to the Displays panel in System Preferences and turned on display mirroring. Bingo! The monitor connected to the ixMicro card now showed a normal desktop as well. I disconnected the second monitor, restarted, turned off display mirroring, and all is still well.
Now if I could find a way to enable the extra buttons on my ADB trackball... All IX Micro cards including the Ultimate Rez are supported in Mac OS X. Read the Mac OS X Read Me and it will note that Mac OS X requires an Apple provided video card from ATi, IX Micro, or Nvidia. I do not believe that IX Micro cards receive video accelleration but it is supported and should drive a monitor just fine.
