There's a control panel called "Multiple Users" which will keep
*accidental* damage to a minimum, but I would also try and do regular
disk re-imaging.  An open firmware password should keep other disks
from booting, which is a good idea-- but apparently there's an
application that can retrieve the password while in MacOS 9, so it's
not perfect.  

The security features in MacOS X are probably much hardier than in
MacOS 9, but reimaging the disk regularly and setting an openfirmware
password, and limiting the programs users can run is reasonable.
