I tried Apple Video Player (which I found at the Apple Web site), but I
still got no video display. Nosing around the Apple Web site some more, I
found Knowledge Base Article 22129. It says you must have a monitor
connected to the on-board monitor port for video capture. When I connected a
second monitor to the on-board port (my main monitor is connected to an ATI
Radeon card), I was indeed able to get Apple Video Player to work. I also
discovered that you do not have to turn the second monitor on--merely
connecting it is enough.

I do not want two monitors connected permanently, so my new question is: Can
I connect a dummy load of some sort to the on-board monitor port to fool the
computer?

Try Apple Video Player running under OS 9.2, or did you already try that?

I have installed an A/V personality card in my Beige G3. I have
connected a VCR to the A/V card with RCA cables. I can select the audio
input from the VCR in the Sound control panel, but I cannot figure out how
to view the video component on my monitor. I have QuickTime Pro 5.0, OS 9.2,
and OS X 10.2.
