Jason, I found an Apple TIL which describes how to reset nvram. First zap the PRAM, if that doesn't work then also reset nvram in Open Firmware. Here's what you have to type in exactly in Open Firmware (also see bottom of this email):
1. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram 2. Press Return. 3. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all 4. Press Return. Example: 0 > reset-nvram Press Return 0 > reset-all Press Return TOPIC The computer starts up regularly to an Open Firmware prompt. Resetting the Open Firmware settings should resolve this. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCUSSION Symptom Every time the computer starts up, a text-based command-line-interface appears that says: "To continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return. To shut down, type "shut-down" and press return. ok 0 > _ If you type mac-boot the computer starts up normally; if you type shut-down the computer shuts down normally, but the command line interface still appears every time you start up the computer. Products affected iMac - all models iBook - all models Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) Power Mac G4 - all models PowerBook G4 - all models PowerBook (FireWire) PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze Keyboard) Solution Reset the computer's parameter RAM (PRAM). See technical document 2238 "Macintosh: How to Reset PRAM and NVRAM." <http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n2238> If this does not resolve the symptoms or you are unable to reset PRAM, then reset the Open Firmware settings by following the steps listed below. 1. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram 2. Press Return. 3. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all 4. Press Return. Example: 0 > reset-nvram Press Return 0 > reset-all Press Return <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42642&SaveKCWindowURL=http%3A%2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePage&searchMode=Assisted&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com&showButton=false&randomValue=100&showSurvey=false&sessionID=anonymous|158984093> * * -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
