Thanks to all for the advice on this. As noted, I was able to boot from cd
and install a system, and then boot from the scsi drive.

Unfortunately the system crashed hard in the middle of the setup assistant
procedure. Everything shut down, and now I can't boot up at all. The cd
drive is completely inert, and though the scsi hard drive spins up, nothing
happens. No chimes, no signal out to the monitor. I've zapped pram and
pushed the cuda, but no joy. Given that this machine was salvaged, and
it's past history is unknown, I'm not inclined to put too much more labor
into it, but if I've overlooked something obvious, further suggestions are
welcome.

Thanks again for the help!

George
