Open iMovie, make sure the slide button on the left hand side that has
an icon of film and the letters "DV" is set do "DV," then hit import.

It will begin importing the video to your hard drive and dumping it to
the folder you are prompted to name when you opened iMovie.

Its that simple.

When you get done importing it you just click and drag the clips from
the tray in the upper right down to the timeline on the bottom. On the
timeline at the bottom there are two tabs one with an eye icon and one
with a clock icon. To add clips be in the "eye" tab, to edit, add sound
tracks, and whatever else be in the "clock" tab.

When you are done go up to File/Export and choose either the camera,
QuickTime, or to iDVD depending on what you want to do with it next.
