Thanks for your reply

I took a good look under the extended tray ( mirror and light)
It looks like a one piece , molded assembly with a rubber grommet
around the front face (used as a cushion)
I can see no way to detach the front
I see no "clips" or grove to pry it off (?)

BTW. The ASP identifies the unit only as a LaCie : Product ID
CDBP-241040A
No info on what the internal guts actually are.

Works OK burning iTunes(audio) and Disk Burner (data) using the
Finder at 24X speed.

But ,had coaster with Toast 5.2 burning audio ; something about cache
and not being able to keep up with , etc (?)-try a lower speed, etc
But did not have this problem at 24x speed burning using iTunes
playlist as above.

Plan to pursue this " problem" over the weekend. Was trying to burn 74
min worth of audio using Toast 5.2..Could be too much to ask of the
disk-which was a Memorex CDR , 700 mb , 80 min , 48X blank (?)

Using iTunes Playlist, only loaded 60 min worth of audio and had no
such problem burning at 24x
Using Disk Copy, burned 541 MB of data in 3 min 25 sec / verification
with no problem

Plan to repeat using only a maximum of 60 min audio burn at 24x using
Toast 5.2 and see what gives-
