The thought that seems to have been hijacked is that Apple's First Aid does not check or repair all the items that TTP, DW and Nortons checks and repairs. First Aid will sometimes find disk problems that are beyond it's repair capability and are only repairable by the BIG 3. I think the situation is that often a disk may be on its last gasp of life and the user by luck happens to use say Nortons and the disk goes belly up. Naturally one would think it was the Nortons that did in my disk. After all Nortons was the last thing that was used so that's got to be the culprit. But it takes more work and analysis to prove a statement rather than a single observation by a frantic user who just saw a disk vanish or some other calamity. I have worked for 30 years in basic scientific research and rigorous experimental design is seldom present in these cases of SW evaluation. You need more than one or two observations, hearsay evidence and a failure to consider all variables before these statements about hosing disks, etc. by Nortons can be seriously considered. Think about it. How long do consumer products that are agreed upon hazards last in the market? Eric -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
