> If you can't document your statements, they are of no value. > Eric I don't *have* to document my statements or provide proof to you. Nor do I have to for anyone else. Anyone in the tech field knows this to be a fact. Believe what you would like to believe. I have the collective experience of all of my clients here in the Bay Area over the past 6 or so years. This is much more extensive and valuable information than the lone opinion of an anonymous member of an internet mailing list. However, I will state for the record since I feel so strongly about this: 1. that I have had a number of clients (more than 100 in my career) with sluggish or non-responsive machines due to the installation of Norton Utilities. Simply removing Norton and all norton extensions corrected *all* problems with their machines (but cost them for my hourly time). 2. Norton Antivirus is a joke compared to Virex in both complexity and speed. 3. I have had about 20-30 clients lose *all* of their data after running Norton's Optimization software. 4. I have had a number of clients (more than 20) report multiple problems with their Mac's after running Disk Doctor. 5. I have done speed tests before and after using Disk Doctor and Speed Disk (versions 2 and up) and found no increase WHATSOEVER in speed or stability. When you take this data and pair it with the fact that I have a close friend who works for symantec and he personally refuses to use their software on his home Macs... well, you it gives you a general idea why I detest Norton. It is a Sophomoric program that puts a candy coated visual interface with the single purpose (IMHO) dupe dim wits into thinking that it is actually doing something valuable (note the moving colored bars bars and *neato* progress wheels), when in essence all it is doing is putting your data at risk by moving it into a new arrangement that makes little or no difference to the system whatsoever. I challenge you Eric...and everyone else who has time.... To run your own speed tests and figure it out for yourself. Here are the best utilities (IMHO) for the end user. 1. Disk First Aid. 2. Disk Warrior. 3. Tech Tool Pro. -- ============================================================== Kyle H.
