Boy, we can go back and forth on the issue of leaving a computer on versus turning it off. It's very much 6-in-one, half-a-dozen the other. Gather a group of 20 or so technicians, and they'll probably be about equally divided. Argument a: constantly leaving a computer on produces a constant wear-and-tear on it's circuits (constant heat from drives and cpu, more hours of use for drives and fans-brings them closer to their expected failure, and with fans that means more heat build-up) that could eventually shorten its life. Argument b: turning a computer on and off causes micro-surges throughout the system that while small enough to not damage the computer right away, are still enough to cause wear-and-tear that will build up over time. In either case, your computer will likely last the same amount of time. Which you decide to do is entirely a matter of personal conviction/choice.
