yeah, analogies are one of the fastest paths to ruin if you don't understand them and where they are wrong. your car is nothing like a computer, rather different technology all around, after all, you also don't idle your car inside all day or use your' computer outside in a blizard or rain storm, do you (and why doesn't my expensive computer have a cup holder)? indeed, cars are outside things and computers are inside things generally.
besides which, what do you think the difference is between putting the machine to sleep and turning it off? for most of it there's no difference what so ever, you are in fact turning nearly every thing off when you put it to sleep, the only thing that's still on is some ram (and only, only for refresh, not at normal data flow and power dissipation) and a few other tid bits at best. sleep is not ON, sleep is very, very close to completely off (hence the low power level, or did you think most of that energy was just wasted when it was on simply to make you feel like it's powerful?)! you should turn your computer on and off every time you use it for even a few minutes, after all, you always flush your' toilet after use don't you? ;) Begin forwarded message: > From: Obi-Wan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Wed Jan 15, 2003 6:04:31 PM America/Denver > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (G-List) > Subject: Re: Date and time problem on G3 > Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (G-List) > > On 1/15/03 6:47 AM, "Terry Mathews" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Spew into > the > Cybertrough: > >> A PowerMac in sleep mode uses less power than your average alarm >> clock. >> Powering the circuits up and down is harder on them than running them >> constantly. >> >> Think of it as a car.
