So, Hi all, I am new to the list, have not posted but have been following for the last week or so. I am also new to Mac. The University where i teach with Upward Bound, had to rid themselves of old standard for the network and so they (sorry Chris Chong) were giving away and even THROWING AWAY Beige G3 266 machines, I got one to upgrade my 8 year olds old machine. It did not have a usb port (why did the older machine have one and not this one?) i bought a IOGEAR 2 port USB for PC and Mac, $12 off buy dot com, there were not qualifyers, but when it would not work IOGEAR said it needed to be 32bit or something, i scolded them for their lack of info on the box and there was no paper inside, manual or otherwise ($12???!!!). Anyway i spent so much darn time with it that 30days elapsed and now buy.com won't take it back. fortunately i have two pcs, i will at two more ports to my pentium II as the pci card works dandy in my wifes pentium I.
anyway.... I researched found a 2 port card from StarTech for $15 on buy.com, wrote StarTech asked; they said it would work. I installed, downloaded Apple's USB card support extension and bingo my kids cheap digital camera is finally recognized by the USB port and automatically downloads the pics from the camera. I am happy! She can now take pics, look at them and then print on my Epson Photo Stylus 2200 (which though I have yet to try I trust it will work at the USB port too). So, there you go guys, avoid IOGEAR, but you are safe with StarTech, there are others I am sure, but this one works and I am not very MAC SMART, so anyone can do it. peace and out, michael-patrick -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
