Forgot to mention my extra 2GB HardDrive (OS 8.1 I think) in the computer which I have
for emergencies, all seems to be in order with it. So I do have some backup if the
drive crashes but I want to save my 9 giger! I am a nervous wreck.

Thanks in advance.

<<<I start by supplying my config: Beige 333, OS 9.1, 256MB RAM, 9GB Harddrive. As I
was downloading two .hqx files from the web (Around 5MB each), the computer crashed
with IE a few times today. I've had experienced freezes with IE for the past three
days. Pretty odd. Usually I've been using it on top of AOL (bad idea but the
account is free for me). Right now I am using Netscape and my ISP, everything seems
to be ok with these although the files downloaded (several times with IE & Netscape)
are unusable (NetherGate & Exile III from SpidWeb). Donwloaded both versions the
.sit and .hqx and this is beginning to look fishy to me, I don't think is the files.
OK my first corcern was as I mentioned the freezes from IE with AOL, however I
tried using it with my ISP and it did the same thing. It seems that AOL host did
not respond the first few times and when I finally tried it with my ISP something
was already corrupted on IE. Norton startup checkup adviced me there is a fatal
B-tree error at this point, so the tension can be cut with a knife (I'm using the G3
NOW!). Another thing is the games are not supposed to be any bigger than 14MB when
expanded. Upon the freezes and repeated unpack trials, I got at least 4 unusable
game folders [with some little files] in the trash and like 8 archives. I was going
to empty the trash but it told me the contents took 300MB on disk (the trash was
empty before that). Of course such tiny games (the whole thing) to me shouldn't
take more than 100MB. I got info on all the files/folders, everything looked OK,
EXCEPT; one of the folders says is 249MB!! (Repeat: the games shouldn't be any
bigger than 14MB). I am afraid if I empty the trash I may trash my system (some
necessary files masked by the directory error) and become unbootable since the
directory seems to be damaged. Another thing is, if I suspect the prefs files from
IE might be corrupted, what is it I have to erase/look for? I see a few files in
the Explorer folder in my Prefs folder. What can I safely erase without trashing my
history/links, something that CAN come back upon relaunching after Norton does it's
job, I am going to run it from the CD next. I know Norton might fix a lot of
things but I ran it yesterday and found NO ERRORS (remember the IE freezes had
  already started). Please help!>>>
