Hi Albert,
My B&W G3 sees my external FireWire Que! Fire CDRW OK. I'm using Toast 
5.2. As you probably remember, I have the Adaptec PCI card too. Try 
opening system prefs and select CD & DVDs. In that panel you can select 
your burner under "When you insert a blank CD". HTH.
