IMHO just backup the drive, connect it to the card, format it with Drive 
Setup or Disk Utility (include OS 9 drivers) and copy the stuff back to 
the HD. Should work fine then.

You may well be right, and I plan to try that when I have room to back up the
contents of that disk.  There may  be a problem with Hard Disk Speed Tools
technique of replacing the driver.  They expect it to  work however, and it is
in their docs.
