I bought a new G4 and installed an Adaptec 29160 PCI/SCSI
card and a Quantum Atlas 10k SCSI hard drive in it. Thinking to put
the operating system on the faster (Ultra 160) Quantum Atlas SCSI
hard drive.
I cannot initialize or mount this Atlas drive when booted
from the OS 10.2 CD that came with the G4.
I can initialize this Atlas drive with the OS 9.2.2 CD that
came with the PowerBook I bought last summer. But I still cannot
install OS 10.2 on it.
I cannot install OS 10.2 on this drive when booted from the
OS 10.2 CD that came with the G4. (Will not install a system folder)
I cannot install OS 10.2 Jaguar on this drive when booted
from the OS 10.2 Jaguar retail version CD that I own. (Will not
install a system folder)
I cannot install OS 9.2 on this hard drive until OS 10.2 is
installed because you have to boot from OS 10.2 and then install OS
9.2.
I called Apple and a tech told me the SCSI drive is not supported.
Does this mean you can't use a SCSI hard drive in Apple
computers any more?
I'm one ticked off Apple Computer owner! (To put it mildly)
