The program seems to write the desired startup disk location in the open firmware, wherever that is. Once you have established the OS X sytem as your default startup you can boot in 9.2 by holding the option key for a moment after rebooting. I've been doing that lately and haven't had to use startup disk at all. It defaults to X unless the option key is pressed. Neat.
