Hey Dan,

If you want to stay with a G3 that is smooth as silk and avoid any real
complicated upgrading I would seriously give this 533MHz ZIF a try. The guy
that is selling them told me (what I had guessed is true from some of the
OWC Website information he posted with these G3 ZIFs) that he bought all of
the remaining inventory of OWC's Mercury/IBM Copper 533MHz ZIFs as OWC just
went through upgrading their selection of processors. Go to OWC's Website
@: http://eshop.macsales.com/specials/MailList.cfm and you will see that
they no longer stock the Mercury G3 533MHz ZIF. Don't get me wrong it is a
good ZIF and will offer significant power over your 333MHz but you can also
buy a Sonnet Crescendo/PCI G3/500MHz 512k 3:1(167MHz) Backside Cache - For
PCI based Macs. with a 3yr Sonnet Warranty. (STIPPCG3500512) for $145.00!!!

OWC even has their "Store Brand" OWC Mercury/ZA G4/450 MHz Altivec Enhanced
ZIF with 1MB@225MHz 2:1 Backside Cache. New with 2yr OWC Warranty.
(OWCZ4450MA) for $179.00 and their OWC Mercury/ZA G4/500MHz Altivec Enhanced
ZIF with 1MB@250MHz 2:1 Backside Cache. New with 2yr OWC Warranty.
(OWCZ4500MA) for $255.00!!! I have no "business" ties to OWC I just have
had good service and quality upgrades from them. Give them a call and see
for yourself.

I have one of the earlier OWC Mercury/IBM Copper 500MHz ZIFs in my Beige G3
(originally a 266MHz Rev A) MiniTower and the installation was a breeze and
I have never had a single problem with it. I purchased three of the OWC
256MB PC100 SDRAM modules and their Beige G3/Orig iMac 4MB Video RAM modules
and a 30GB Quantum Fireball HD all at the same time from them and have never
looked back. I believe two years ago I paid in the neighborhood of
US$249.00 for my G3 500MHz ZIF so the US$209.99 for the eBay listed "NEW" G3
533MHz sounds like a good deal (if that is what you want).

One last note...if you are going to be running Jag X on your Beige G3 then
you will not realize the full potential of the new OS (which is optimized
for the G4's Altivec processing and what ever Apple comes out with on the
processor side of the equation in the future). So giving consideration to
cost, speed, OS, current limitations of your Beige G3's system bus, etc you
may want to stay with a G3 upgrade and keep it "classic" on one of your
drives and try out Jag X on another drive linked to a PCI card bus for a
little faster pace. The G3 533Mhz ZIF is a very good card and so is the G4
500MHz it just depends on what applications you will be running.

These are just some very random thoughts and others on this LEM chain may
have some other suggestions and ideas to consider.
