Hi, I have both a BW300 and 400 and the difference in speed is negligable, certainly not worth 129$. Then I added the Sonnet encore 500 card to the 300 and the difference is very noticable, not only to before but to the 400 as well. And yes, be sure the firmware updates are installed, and in your case I would go for a PCI IDE card since the Rev.1 controller is flaky.
