Not exactly true either.  The 'superdrive' that Apple calls its own is actually
a Pioneer dvd-r, one of several, either commercially sold or OEM (original
equipment, no docs or software.)  The latest of these DVD-R 105 (its OEM
designation, I forget the comercial number) will burn cds at 16x and DVDs at 4 x
if you have the right disks.

The only caveat is that the drive be mounted on the internal bus, replacing the
original cd drive.  So my Beige Minitower  with its aftermarket Pioneer DVD-R
104 (and a 466 G4) works fine with iDVD.  The installationis plug and play, and
the drive is recognized by both os 9,2 and 10.2.x.  I paid about $250 for the
drive.  The new model is being offered for about $280 by some of the mainstream
dealers like MacMall.
