Check your CD drive. Make sure it's the original Apple CD drive that came with your G3 
and not an aftermarket one. You cannot install / boot from am OSX disk using anything 
but a stock Apple drive on the beige. The only way to get it to boot off OS9.2 is to 
zap the PRAM on the reboot(option+apple+P+R).
