You need a Sonnet Tempo ATA PCI card to run additional drives (4
connections on the card) in a B/W rev. 1, G3. I have this model G3 with
2-40 GB IBM DeskStar drives besides the OEM 9 GB HD. Trying a second
IDE drive in rev. 1 G3's gives problems. See this "DO-IT-YOURSELF
SECOND HARD DISK
INSTALLATION" site for rev. 1 B/W G3
<http://homepage.mac.com/kevinvh/G3_HD_Inst.html> . This site
<http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3-ZONE/yosemite/newfeatures.html> has how
to do it with photos to help.
The rev. 1 B/W G3 has FireWire that is a known high failure rev. 1
feature so if you have flakey FireWire failures, don't blame the device
such as CD burner with odd behavior. It might be the FireWire. OTOH
your FireWire may be OK and work flawlessly for the life of the G3.
Good luck.
