I finally downloaded Quicktime 6.1 and did a quick test of iMovie 3.02.  I noted
no improvement in performance.  It doesn't even supply a smooth video display. 
They have turned a thoroughbred into a dog.  I hope they figure it out.

Meanwhile this debacle has driven me to start looking at Final Cut Express,
which isn't a bad outcome.  It's a pretty wonderful tool.  The only performance
problem with FCE was if I put the Canvas viewer on my second monitor, which is
driven by the motherboard video of my rev 1 Beige Minitower, the playback is
jerky.  But on the main monitor, on a Radeon 7000, everything is smooth.

I guess I should put my second monitor on the Radeon too, but I kind of like to
watch X boot.
