The price to upgrade it (about $250-$300 for a G4 processor upgrade and a larger hard drive) is the stumbling point here. 512 megs of ram is fine for OSX. Photoshop 7 runs nicely on my upgraded Beige G3, and Illustrator 10 isn't that much of a processor hog, so I think that would do well. My beige G3 ( A 300 MHz rev C which cost me $200) upgrade cost me $175 for the 450 MHz G4, $90 for 768 mb RAM and $60 for a new hard drive...which I wouldn't have had to pay for had I not dropped the hard drive I was moving from my old system on the floor in the process. (I'd also purchased a Radeon 7000 video card and a USB card some time ago for my old computer. Figuring in those the price starts to add up, $90 for the video card $25 for the USB...) It sort of depends on what that G4 is you play with at school...any G4 system is going to be faster than your beige, even when upgraded, and if you're going from a newer 800 MHZ+ G4 at school to your expensively upgraded Beige at home, you may feel cheated, so you're better off saving the money and getting a newer system. (or even, <gasp> new! An emac is a nice system for <$1000 ) But, upgraded, mine is a a nicely responsive system. (though all told, the whole shebang cost me $640, spread out over several months, mind you, and counting the price of the recycled parts.) > -- "Wherever you go, there you are." - B.
