If your poor ol' mac been sitting unused for a year, you will need to 
replace the battery.

It's easy, and you can buy replacements at a lot of electronics stores 
for less than half of what Apple dealers charge. Even one that's a 
'solder-on-the-board' type usually fits. (there's a little prong on 
each end).
