Actually, the ATA standard states that 18" is the official maximum 
length (for ATA/IDE, ATA-33, ATA-66, and ATA-100). You can get up to a 
24 or 36 inch cable, but it should be noted that the longer the cable 
the greater the risk of data corruption with IDE.
