I've actually got 2 - a panasonic CW-7502 and a Yamaha CDR400t-NB. True, they're both
I've been wondering, what are you all out there using for beige-case-compatible burners (CDRW mainly).
Considering replacing the CDROM in my beige desktop with a burner. Something that fits behind the bezel, and because I want it all, full compatibility with OS 9 & X Disk Burner and Disk Copy, iTunes etc. Oh, and of course bootable.
Alternatively, bootable isn't absolutely critical and hacks for Disk Burner/Disk Copy are OK perhaps. But it's gotta fit well behind the bezel.
old SCSI 4x burners, but they cost me the princely sum of $nothing, so I figure a burner's a burner,
and there's always something else to do while waiting. They both burn fine, both boot with the C key
(and this is where I wonder what's up, because, although they're SCSI, they came out of Wintel machines...
and they both boot using the C key. Strange things happen, eh?), but the panasonic is light years better at
ripping audio CD's. And they both fit perfectly with the bezel - you wouldn't know that I'd touched the CD drive
except that it says "CD-R 4x Write" on the front of the tray. The only issue was that I had to mooch an internal
SCSI lead from the ol' faithful 7100, but that's been a glorified footrest since the G3 came along. Still, you put a 1 gig
hard drive and an old burner into them and they turn into standalone CD copiers...
Don't know about os 9/X software, but Toast 4.1 deluxe is smooth as...well, something real smooth.
So i think I said something of worth there, hope someone else got it too..
I'll get out of your way now, I'll see you later
Cheers, Evan.
