sounds to me like a connection problem, either the cable is loose at one end or the other, the connectors dirty, or a break in the cable or the soldered connections at one end or the other. . when i occasionally gets bad enough, the monitor thinks there isn't a video signal and goes to sleep, at other times the monitor doesn't go to sleep, but you see a screen flicker. this might also explain the buzzing sound, if it's being caused by the video drivers seeing an impedance change in the cable they don't like, or you could have 2 unrelated problems. chips making an audible sound is nothing unusual, any semiconductor device can produce an audible sound and often it doesn't indicate anything unusual, it's just that most people's ears aren't good enough to notice and most people are already ignoring background noise.
