I installed X on a beige my self with very little hell, it only took me 5
installs! However I found away to avoid the hell! Get an 8 GB drive! Make
sure you format the drive as a HFS+ with the os 9 drivers! Thats is all I
had to do to make it work great, UNIX format sucked and was slow. I how ever
have not been able to solve this, when I boot from a CD it wont boot back to
the os X drive but boots into 9 and I cant get in to X not even with the
option Key. I have to use the startup disk control panel. But other then
that X has been fast and great. I only wish I can solve some network issues.
I am even running a USB keyboard and mouse with no trouble. And I have the
evil 4 port I here are bad to use, I am however am going to replace it with
a 2 port belkin just to be on the safe side. But things are working well so
far. Oh and you should apply the 10.2.6 UPDATE after 10.2 cd install! or X
will break! Also people with a PCI video card should be aware that they will
not see the full startup screen in X, since X has not installed drivers at
that point of boot! X also does not boot super fast in the beginning. But I
must say X takes my breath away. I was shocked over how cool it really is,
but there is so much I miss in classic that X does not have. :-(
