Thanks for answering both my queries, Gary. The computers are set to DHCP. They can see each other on the network but will not connect to the net. I'm reasonably sure it's a problem with the settings but I can't contact the ISP to find out for sure because they frown on sharing a connection.

What addresses have you set?


Try manually setting one machine as the server at IP address 192.168.0.1
and the other as IP address 192.168.0.2 with the router address on the
second machine set to the first addy. Both subnet 255.255.255.0.

Make sure that Appletalk is set to ethernet as well.
