The CD was a retail version, not for any particular Mac. It was supplied with an earlier OSX. > > I'm curious what your original issue was that required a new logic > board. Same symptoms? If no, what was the problem? Maybe it's related. The Mac wasn't starting, just the power LED on. If you reset the logic board it would be OK for a day or until you shut down. The replacement board fixed this. > > One option is to back up all data, write zeros to hard drive and > restore data. Seems excessive perhaps, but I've seen writing zeros to a > misbehaving HD fix an ambiguous issue like this more than once. I'm dropping another disk in later today as another test. I'll be using an old known good 4 GB iMac disk left over from an upgrade in case the faster 60 GB I have spare suffers from the rev. 1 board data corruption and confuses the issue. Talking of writing zeros during initialisation, I have had to do this quite a bit recently, but only to cure OSX reinstall problems. The last instance was due to someone throwing away some of their OSX files. When reinitialising the drive, installing OS9 drivers, then proceeding on, no drive showed up to install 10.2 on to. Writing zeros fixed this in 3 instances now. I'm beginning to not trust a straight initialisation in X without writing zeros, and this takes ages with most large drives used now.
