I had this same problem about a year ago when I first got my Yamaha CDRW and Toast Lite. I called Yamaha tech support and they said it was a conflict between a 9.1 extension and one of the Toast extensions. When I disabled the 9.1 extension, the problem cleared up.
I wish I could be more specific but it happened too long ago.

I had the exact same warning from the guy who sold me my Yamaha burner a few years ago. When using Toast Lite, you need to disable the extensions in OS 9 which enable Finder- and iTunes-level disk burning (like the Disk Burner extension)--Toast's extensions and the Disk Burner extensions both conflict when together.
I can't recall which extensions you need to disable--it took me a lot of trial and error--but I think you need to disable the Disk Burner extension, and the FireWire/USB CD Burner extensions--I don't remember if those are the exact names for them, but it's along those lines.
Good luck.
