Micro$oft is never going to lose with deals like this as they encourage lesser enlightened to go the Micro$oft path, and it's a very small price to pay to enroll someone, to not charge for something that doesn't cost them anything.
That's always been Micro$oft's upper hand, the fact that most people have used Windoze before and know nothing else.
A bit sad really...
