I have a Lexmark Z12 that I am able to refill the cartridge. Does the model in question do something different?
Because Lexmark charges an arm, a leg, and two utility infielders to be named later per cart, is why,,,that and they're using the DMCA to prevent cartridge cloners and re-fillers from horning in on their business. <http://vigilant.tv/article/2919>
