But whether the suit wins or not, right now there is no third party ink at all. I have a Z53 and I use it as a back-up for the kids. I once got a black and color pair of cartridges on deep discount at staples for $50. The lowest I can get them now is over $60. Looking at DealInk right now I see that Ink4Art is offering generic color compatibles for $20 (with coupon). That's new, they've never done that before. But even at $20 instead of $30 per cartridge (and note there is no corresponding sale for the black--the Lexmark black is pigment based) the price is still incredibly high because it uses the cartridges so fast.
I got a refurbished Epson 888 (from Epson) after it stopped production and I am very glad. It works great and the generic cartridges cost $5 (from Ink4Art) and last about the same as the Lexmark (not long).
I also have a C82, and like they say, its ink really is waterproof, and although there are 3rd party replacements, I really like the waterproof Epson ink and although it takes 4 individual cartridges that cost $11 each, (you can buy packs of them too), in this case, the Epson ink is clearly superior, and the cartridges last a long time.
Anyway, I once saw a review of the Lexmark by PCWorld and they rated the Lexmark Z53 as costing over 15 cents a page to print. I laughed at that. I now think that that's too low.
