An excellent point is made here. Do NOT touch the printhead of an EPSON Printer. The epson printhead is a permanent, and expensive, part of the machine.
However, if a person finds that the Hewlett Packard cartridge seems to be in need of replacement;
it is ok to gently clean the HEWLETT PACKARD cartridge with a kleenex.
I have done it many times, without incident (to my surprise when i tried it the first time.)
I do it gently,
and only when i decide that i am going to replace the cartridge, if the cleaning fails
(such failure has never occurred, yet.)
Remember: do NOT touch the printhead of an EPSON printer.
If you do less printing, get a HP. The HP cartridges come with a
new printhead (nozzles) attached to every cartridge.
This makes it easy to deal with clogged nozzles: wipe the printhead gently with a kleenex.
If this is not successful, put in a new cartridge.
I hate to contradict anybody, but, I do not believe that using a facial tissue to clean off a print head is very practical. I would recommend a cotton swab and methyl hydrate (gas line antifreeze) as it evaporates quickly after you clean the cartridge.
Personally, I have found Epson printers to be very reliable and economical. (I own 4, 3 of which are in use, and 1 is still new in box. I owned an HP Deskwriter 550C and vowed never to buy another.
I'd like to know if anyone has used the new Okidata color laser printers that have recently been available? Price is certainly right at $1000-$1500 (Canadian $) for 2 of their models.
