DVD-RAM drives are cool. A truly amazing technology. You can literally
install an application to a dvd/ram disk and run the app completely from
that disk. If they would have kept up development of the technology, I am
certain that these would have been bootable.

While comparing them to a big floppy is a fair analogy, they actually are
closer to a hard drive in how you can move data around and stuff. You also
do not DARE touch the face of a DVD/RAM disk as you would a regular dvd. It
is kind of a gel that is ultra sensitive to touch.

I bought mine from in fact a member of this list. It is presently installed
in a firewire enclosure. It is the 4.7 GB model which is available at 9.4
BG both sides. I use this thing to backup files that are continually
updated because all you do is throw the old one to the trash and replace it
with the updated one. No throwing out the DVD disk each time.

If and when I ever get ahead financially, I intend to buy one of the newer
dvd/rw drives that INCLUDE DVD/RAM.

So yeah, there is still a market, I just think most people don't know what
to make of the unusual technology.

Dave
