My Acard usb/firewire pci card is usb 2 and they supply a usb 2 driver for osX. 
There is no driver for os9, but its the os, not the processor that determines
whether you can use 2, apparently.

 I have not actually tried usb2, though I have a firewire/usb2 enclosure.  I
guess I should.
