Yes it will work, the speed of the USB 2.0 device will revert to 1.1.
i.e. I have an IceCube Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure (with a 6GB HD) and 
use it with several Macs which only have USB 1.1 ports and that works 
perfectly.
