The only ways I can think of around your problem at least to some degree is that you launch the version that you want and then use the Open command within the app, or you could use AppleScript to aid in launching where AppleScript launches the app and then opens the file, or use one of the Macro Programs like KeyQuencer or QuicKeys -- The Librarian looked out at the jolting scenery.
