around.
No, there aren't.
Or rather, there *are* but they're all concealed within the magical application folders that the icons in the Applications folder represent.
Go spelunking in the Applications folder via Terminal sometime.
You can install Office X by simply dragging the applications to the Applications folder. It does not litter your System or other folders with invisible files.
Amazingly enough.
