I believe that 10.2.7 is meant only for the G5. I think Apple mentioned
that this version makes Jag take advantage of the G5's 64bit power. I don't
think any hack would do any good on non-G5 systems. I've also seen an
update just for the G5 from Adobe (Photoshop) taking advantage of that 64bit
power. Mmmmm....G5...ackghhhhhhh (<--sound of tongue hanging with some
drool).
10.2.7 was made to support all of the new hardware on a G5. However, there are a few enhancements that will eventually make it to a general software update release as 10.2.7 for non-G5 systems.
10.2.7 does not take advantage of the G5's 64-bit power, nor will 10.3. So far as I know, there is no timetable for making the OS 64-bit aware. It will probably be a while before the entire OS is. For the moment, it's not necessary. Individual apps can take advantage of the 64-bit nature of the G5. In any case, the G5 is designed to run 32-bit apps with little slowdown (it sends 2 32-bit chunks through the pipe at a time).
