hi glenn,

thanks for getting back to me, really apopricate it!

right, i''ve installed the the ipod software and plugged it in.

the update brings up the dialog box saying ' ipod not readable' but when i
run it it tells me:

'update cant install firmware on the connected ipod. the ipods hardware and
the updater firmware are not compatable.'

the ipods info states it's 'version' is 1.3 and it's an original 5giger.
however, i just plugged it into my mac and did a factory restore and it
still states is v1.3...

it is showing up as a removable disk on my pc though - when i double click
it, it says its not formatted and asks me if i want to format...

if i do format, will i be able to update? my worry is formatting it, not
being able to run the updater and then never being able to get it connected
and running again...

what to do??!! any suggestions would be grand. once again, thanks for your
help.
