It's not on a hub is it? Which version of X are you running? 10.2.6 shows all of my devices, USB and Firewire, under the Devices and Volumes tab.

Try using your printer diagnostic program (assuming you have one) and then opening Apple System Profiler... That shouldn't make a difference though.
