My keyboard is missing a key. I assumed that you
couldn't buy new adb keyboards anymore so I was
looking for other options.

You can use a usb keyboard, but keep the adb one around incase of emergency. The other option is to join the swaplist and buy one off of that. adb keyboards tend to go for under $15 shipped.

As far as the mouse goes,
there is nothing better than an optical logitech or
microsoft mouse. :)

Not to mention having 2 buttons. But again, keep your adb mac mouse around for emergencies.

Regarding firmware: Is this similar to the bios on a
pc? The reason I ask is that I pulled a hard drive
out of my linux machine and put in on the second IDE
channel in the mac and it doesn't show up at all.

Firmware is similar to the bios. But it is really more like the chipset (ie; Intel 440BX that is on the motherboard). The pram memory is probably closer to the bios, it remembers the date and time, mouse settings etc. You do not need to tell it to look for another drive.

You need to format the drive first with Apple's Drive setup before you can use it.
