I need to have a DB25 male at the modem end and an old Mac priter/modem connector (male) at the computer end. --- end of quote --- If I remeber what I've done in this situation, it's to buy a 25 pin to 9 pin (PC type serial port) adapter and then use a 9 pin to mac serial cable. These cables aren't so hard to find. Cyberguys and that sort of place has the 25 to 9 and maybe the cable too. (Be sure the adapter and cable genders are right if you order.) Also be sure its a modem cable, not a null modem cable.
I'm not sure if the mac serial printer cables were set up as nul modem (one pair of wires are swapped.) If so, they won't work with a modem. Maybe someone can answer this. Usb cables would be useless, you're right. Anyway, I've made this work, so you can too. Meanwhile. Redmond Cable.com will have or make up any cable you need, though it might be pricy and a mac dedicated modem might be cheaper than the cable.
